About Me

Welcome to “Flashbacks – Rumors, Myths, Legends & Lies”.  I hope you find something entertaining.

I determined years ago that even when we share an experience, we each remember it differently.  Usually the basics are the same but it’s unlikely that we each interpret those basics to mean the same thing.  As time passes those memories may fade, change or take on new meanings.

I learned a lot about story-telling by watching my longtime friend, Roger.  He was a great story teller because he made everything entertaining, wasn’t afraid to cast himself as the fool and made things sound larger than life.  More than once I found myself with friends listening to him relate a fantastic story that sounded vaguely familiar only to come to the realization that the story was about me.  He made it a much larger story than I remembered it being and made me sound like a super hero.  As I thought about his interpretation, I realized that he wasn’t making things up.  He was just relating the facts in a way that most people didn’t.

To illustrate that point, compare the Beatles’ version of “A Little Help From My Friends” with Joe Cocker’s.  Adding instruments here and there, emphasizing this verse or that chorus and singing with his distinctly different voice he gave the song a completely different feel and maybe a different meaning for some listeners.  In essence, he made the song his own and he didn’t tell a lie while doing it.

So, taking inspiration from Roger and Joe Cocker I try to tell stories that capture your attention and entertain.  If you were there, they may not sound the way you recall them but I do try hard to stick to the facts as I interpreted them.  I just put them together in my own way.  If I offend, I welcome you to start your own blog and tell it your way.

If you have a story to tell in the same vein maybe we can find a place for it here.

BTW………I’m not locking myself into never telling a lie, hence the name of the blog “Flashbacks – Rumors, Myths, Legends and Lies”.

I also have a Kayaking Blog if you are so inclined.  Visit it here: 3meterswell
